FILLMORE’S TIME TEST APPLIED TO NORWEGIAN PATH VERBS

Path verbs in Germanic languages mostly are characterized by satellite space conceptualisation. It is assumed that in the few absolute arrival and departure verbs the so called Fillmore’s time test allows to determine whether а verb’s point of reference, or point of view, represents the beginning or the end of the path. Based on surveying of the Norwegian verbs g˚a/komme and bringe/hente it is argued here that 1) Fillmor’s time test allows to find out the verb’s focus of attention, not point of reference or point of view; 2) the focus of attention may rest at the middle point too.
