THE GOTHIC TRANSFORMATION AND THE PROBLEM OF TRADITION. K. BLIXENS “MONKEY”

The article analyses one short story from the “Seven Gothic Tales” (1934) called “Monkey”. The author drafts the problem of the gothic, finding the gothic elements both in the plot and style and looking at the transformation of the traditional story through allusions and use of other traditions. The monkey turns to be an ambivalent symbol that is created on the crossroad of many interpretations from the Middle age through Renaissance to the gothic and psychological traditions.
