Reduction in sentence length and simplification of sentence structure were among the most important trends in the Swedish syntax in the XX century. This phenomenon is characteristic for very different types of texts. This article deals with the very conservative texts — the Bible — in order to determine if they have undergone the same changes. Bible 2000 is considered to be written in contemporary language reflecting all the changes that took place in the Swedish language during the XX century.
