In 2009 a Norwegian writer, Håkon Stang, published the novel “The Troll’s Drum” (“Trolitrommen’). The novel is based on historical events of the 9th century located on enormous territory. In translating the novel into Russian the author of the article came across notable differences in Russian, Scandinavian and Finno- Ugric historic and ethnic traditions and made decisions. The article is dedicated to the most important ones.
