SOME SEMANTIC FEATURES AND USAGE OF NORWEGIAN SUBSTANTIVES STED AND PLASS

When describing spatial relationships, many linguists use metalexemes of a natural language, as place and thing in English, or место and вещь in Russian. There are though two semantically broad terms for place/место in Norwegian, sted and plass. Their dictionary definitions are practically the same. In this article some semantic features of these two words are analysed as to the applicability of the metalexeme-criteria. The conclusion is that while sted is a proper metalexeme, the meaning of plass is composed ofthat of sted + purpose + measure harmony.
