The concept of identity has been intensively discussed for several decades. This contribution discusses firstly the relationship between the ‘self ’, a coherent identity, alienation and authenticity. I will then elaborate on the nomadic and metamorphoses, in which I use the views of Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari and Rosi Braidotti. Thereafter I will clarify the role of these concepts for transfer and translation studies. Finally, I will give an answer to the question whether and how notions of ‘identity’, ‘nomadic’ and ‘cosmopolitanism’ apply or can be made fruitful for the international Dutch studies.
