The article presents an analysis of the functional characteristics of the modal particles bare, blot and kun meaning ‘just’ and ‘only’ in sentences of various structure. The function in common for this group of particles is grounding, or comment of how reliable the content of the proposition is, the unifying meaning being that of simplicity and minimization. Every particle also has its own pragmasemantic invariant, which is directly connected to the meaning of the lexeme from which it is derived. A comparative analysis of bare, blot and kun allows us to conclude that at the basis of their functional discrepancies lie the epistemic meanings of the speaker’s hypothetic inference (bare), an evaluation of the situation by the speaker presented to the hearer (blot), and reference to reality (kun) — meanings which unify all groups of Danish particles into one system.
