This paper discusses semantics of verbs like begin/continue/stop and arise/disappear in Danish. It is shown that transitive (X begins P etc.) and intransitive (P begins/arises etc.) lexical-semantic variants of these verbs constitute two lexical-semantic groups (LSG). The paper focuses on the first LSG and on a subgroup of the second one that means ‘begin/continue/stop to exist (about a process)’. Special emphasis is made on the most important Danish verbs in the first LSG and in this subgroup.
