The article is devoted to the evolution of Norwegian dialectology, its initial, pre-scientific period. That was the time of piling up dialectal data, namely, occasional ones. The article contains the characteristics of the most known
glossaries of that time. The issue of progress in studying phonetics, morphology and syntax of Norwegian dialects in XVII–XVIII centuries is touched upon here as well.
