The article explores the visual phenomenon as a communicative channel between the past and present narratives as they are seen in ‘Rituals’, the famous novel by Cees Nooteboom. The art work forms the core of the whole novel thus becoming a corner stone of the main characters’ personal narratives. The visual is analyzed as well as the source of the so called ‘existence beyond the context’.
