DANSKE FALDGRUBER

Danish pitfalls. The starting point for this article was empirical: hundreds of observations of typical problems in the homework of my advanced students of Danish at Charles University in Prague, 2012–13. Apart from difficulties with idioms the ‘interesting’ mistakes turned out to fall into groups concerning: I. Verb-object collocations; II. Prepositions; III. Constructions with ‘det’ or ‘der’; IV. Adverbs with or without t-ending; V. Swear words as sentence
adverbs thus being syntactically restricted. My approach to disentangling the problems is a combination of grammar and logic based on my teaching experience. The aim is not to draw universal conclusions, but to show a representative material, which can hopefully inspire to further exercises.
