KARL VON ROLAND. MEMOIRS OF BEING A PRISONER OF WAR IN RUSSIA AND OF KARL’S XII WARS (1709–1714)

A part of the memoirs of the Swedish officer who was taken prisoner after the Battle of Poltava (1709) is published here in Russian translation. His memoirs contain unique account of life and customs in a provincial town of Galich. The life of prisoners and their relations with the local administration and residents are described. The publication contains Introduction with K. von Roland’s short biography; the essential comments are supplemented.
