LANGUAGE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CHARACTERS IN H. A. BJERREGAARD’S PLAY “MOUNTAIN TALE”

“Mountain Tale” (“Fjeldeventyret”, 1825) by Henrik Anker Bjerregaard (1792- 1842) has a special place in the history of Norwegian language as it is the first case when an author purposefully used Norwegian dialect in a work of fiction. The article is focused on the analysis of the characters’ speech as the reflection of their social identity. The main attention is paid to the specific Norwegian words and constructions and their role in the building of the characters.
