NIETZSCHE’S POSTNIHILIST PERSON IN THE EARLY NOVELS OF KNUT HAMSUN

The works of F. Nietzsche became well-known in Europe in the end of the 19th century, after the publication in 1889 of G. Brandes’s critical review “Aristocratic Radicalism”. Knut Hamsun’s second novel, in which the writer depicted the inner life of a modern young man, and how the revision of spiritual values of time affected his soul and destiny, appeared two years later. The author of this article investigates the similarities between the ideas of the German philosopher and the Norwegian writer, and tries to answer the question about whether the influence could take place. The analysis discovers that the similarities are conditioned by the spirit of the times, and have the nature of typological resemblances.
