ON FREQUENCY OF THE VERBS OF MOTION IN THE TEXTS OF DIFFERENT FUNCTIONAL STYLES IN MODERN NORWEGIAN

The verbs of motion, being significant and conceptual, compose an important semantic group in any language. Quantitative analysis of the verbs of motion, along with qualitative analysis, makes it possible to determine consistent patterns in the language development and the peculiarities of the use of language units in the texts of different styles. In the present article we tried to count the total number of verbs and to compare it with the number of the verbs of motion used in the extracts from the Norwegian fiction, publicistic and scientific texts. We concluded that the number of the used verbs of motion depends on the style’ of the text, that the verbs of motion are most frequently used in the fiction texts, and that the verbs gä (go) and komme (come) are used most frequently in the texts of all three styles.
