PRODUCTIVE SEMI-AFFIXES IN CONTEMPORARY SWEDISH LANGUAGE

Semi-affixes are an important part of word formation in contemporary Swedish. By semi-affixes we mean such derivative morphemes that have correlates which are used as independent words. The meaning of the derivative
morpheme is partly or wholly different from the initial one and always more abstract. The use of semi-affixes in Swedish is restricted to nominal word formation. Semi-prefixes are more common in formation of adjectives, while
semi-suffixes occur only in nouns. The largest semantic group of productive adjective semi-prefixes are intensifiers, such as j¨atte-, total -, dunder-; among productive noun semi-affixes the most numerous are those denoting person,
as -kramare, -skalle or -guru.
