THE FATE OF THE DANISH LANGUAGE IN ICELAND

Iceland has been located in the area of the Danish language for 600 years. A lot of material on this problem can be found in the book “The Teacher’s Strategies  the Students’ Danish: Danish as a foreign Language in Iceland”
(Lærerens strategier  elevernes dansk: Dansk som fremmedsprog i Island. København, 2001) by the Icelandic scientist Auur Hauksd´ottir, who has maid profound research in teaching Danish in Iceland. The research followed
pedagogical and methodical goals and touched the problems of general linguistics, the problem of the Danish language spreading in particular. The role as well as the sphere of usage of the Danish language in Iceland throughout the centuries are being analyzed in the article.
