This article aims to analyze popular Swedish lexis of 1950-1960s in comparison with the data represented in the latest dictionaries such as “Svensk ordbok utgiven av Svenska Akademien” (first edition 2009) and “Svenska Akademiens ordlista” (first edition 2006). The research has shown that approximately third part of 330 trendy words included in “Svenska modeord55 (1970) does not appear in the latest dictionaries. Those are mostly complex words with one of the components gone out of date during recent 40 years and therefore lost its “trendiness”. There is also a number of lexical items, mostly loan-translations, that are strictly conditioned by its time reference and due to that fact has fallen outside of the scope of those dictionaries.
