MARK THE CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF S. S. MASLOVA-LASJANSKAJA (1916–1990)

14 June 2016 marked the centenary of Sarah Semenovna Maslova-Lasjanskaja, one of the founders of our national Scandinavian studies and the real founder of the Swedish basic theoretical courses that are still delivered at the Swedish Department, created the teaching methods of the practical Swedish language as well as wrote the text-books
that are still indispensable for current students (Swedish Language part 1. Swedish Lexicology co-authored by N. N. Tolstaja, Swedish Language Book). Working for the university she qualified more than 200 specialists in Swedish
Linguistics, who always remember with gratitude their Teacher. S. S. Maslova-Lasjanskaja was a prominent scholar, Doctor of Philology. Her scientific heritage includes a great number of articles devoted to some problems of Swedish vocabulary, naming processes, as well as the use of prepositions in the Swedish language. Swedish Lexicology also was a part of her scientific interests. She made an invaluable contribution to the creation of bilingual dictionaries, namely she was the main author of the Great Russian-Swedish Dictionary published in 1976, and the author of “the Short Essay of Swedish Grammar” in the first Great Swedish-Russian Dictionary published in our country. S. S. Maslova-Lasjanskaja possessed remarkable personal qualities: outstanding human decency and adherence to principles, unbelievable industry and honesty, amazing modesty and selfdiscipline. As well as friendly attitude to people.
